A 63-year-old woman is dead after police say she crashed her car into the wall of an underground garage at the Sunspray Condominiums in Old Orchard Beach on Tuesday.

Police believe the woman, whose name has not been disclosed, lived at the building at 191 East Grand Avenue.

Old Orchard Beach police, fire, and rescue crews were sent to the scene at around 4:50 p.m., according to a news release from Old Orchard Beach Tuesday night.

Officers say first responders attempted to provide medical aid, but the woman died at the scene.

“Upon further investigation of the incident, it appears the vehicle entered the parking lot into the underground garage area where it immediately struck a wall, causing significant damage to the vehicle,” said Old Orchard Beach Deputy Police Chief David Hemingway

Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
