Ultra-endurance athlete Brendan Walsh of Westbrook is using his endurance challenges to raise thousands of dollars for different charities across the U.S.

According to the Portland Press Herald, Walsh donated over $10,000 to the National Alliance on Mental Illness for his bike ride from Madawaska to Key West, Florida, which set a Guinness World Record, along with a run across of Cape Cod.

The 30-year-old also raised over $4,000 for St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital during his bike trek from Boston to Seattle, and $3,000 went to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society for his run through Maine.

The organizations say they’re grateful for his help, not only because he raises money for them, but also brings attention to their work during his feats.

Walsh is currently raising money for Water1st International, a nonprofit organization dedicated to bringing clean water to some of the world’s poorest people through community-oriented projects.
