President Trump is getting pushback after reports that the Department of Defense is terminating collective bargaining agreements at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.

The campaign of Secretary of Shenna Bellows Bellows says the President should reverse course, and called his actions “unhinged and unnecessary escalations with foreign adversaries.”

Unions are good for workers and good for our national security,” the statement from the Bellows campaign said.

WCSH reports the Trump administration terminated contracts with two unions at the shipyard, including one with the American Federation of Government Employees and one with the United Brotherhood of Carpenters.

Executive orders terminating a wider scope of Defense Department employees were first reported last week.

Federal News Network reported that a federal official stated, “The Department is executing presidential executive order 14251 and 14343, which concerns the termination of certain collective bargaining agreements. Department components will notify affected bargaining units of the status of their agreements.”

The Naval Shipyard in Kittery employs more than 6,500 federal employees.
