Two people have injuries from a plane crash into Flagstaff Lake near Eustis on Monday afternoon.

Maine State Police say the 1956 Cessna 170B float plane was attempting to take off from the lake when it crashed.

Officers say the pilot, 62-year-old Stephen Vorpagel of Readfield, and one passenger were rescued, brought to shore, and suffered minor injuries in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.

Agencies assisting in the response and investigation include the Maine State Police, Maine Warden Service, Franklin County Sheriff’s Office, local EMS, the Department of Environmental Protection, and the Federal Aviation Administration.

The crash took place at about 1:30 pm Monday.

The plane comes just days after two women were killed at Flagstaff Lake when their pontoon boat flipped and threw all seven passengers into the water. The cause of that crash is also being investigated.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us
