Maine oysterman Graham Platner says his campaign has raised $1 million in nine days since launching his run to unseat Republican Senator Susan Collins.

The Democratic candidate says most of his contributions have been small donations – averaging $33, with 98 percent under $100 – which means those people can donate over and over.

Platner also says his donations have built up over the days since he announced his campaign, raising more on day 4 than on day 1.

In addition, Platner says he signed up more than 2,700 volunteers in the short time he’s been a candidate.

Collins has not officially launched her reelection campaign, but has raised $2.4 million in the most recent filing period.

Democratic candidate Jordan Wood announced his campaign in late April and has raised $1.6, according for filing with the Federal Election Commission.

Platner will be making an appearance in Portland on Labor Day as part of Independent Senator Sanders’ “Fighting Oligarchy” tour.

This year’s song of the summer is a ballad, not a banger. Here’s what that says about us

For the past 14 weeks and counting, the top Billboard spot has been held by a love ballad: Alex Warren's "Ordinary." As Berklee College of Music professor and forensic musicologist Joe Bennett notes, the February release is "a fair bit slower than the mean average for the Hot 100, or for a historical song of the summer."
