A 38-year-old Otisfield man faces felony assault charges after a shooting incident outside a home Saturday night.

Oxford County deputies say they were called to a report of a person who had been shot and found a 28-year-old woman who had non-life-threatening injuries after being shot in the hand.

She was taken by ambulance to Stephens Memorial Hospital.

Deputies say they arrested John K. Pottle, Jr. for the shooting, and say he was recklessly shooting an AR-15 style rifle in close range of the victim.

Pottle’s firearm was seized and he was taken to Oxford County Jail. He faces Reckless Conduct with a Firearm (Class B), a felony.

Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the Oxford County Sheriff’s Office at (207) 743-9554.

Oxford County deputies say they were assisted at the scene by Cumberland County deputies, along with Maine State Police, officers from Oxford and Norway, and crews from the Otisfield Fire Department and Pace Ambulance.

The incident took place at about 7:10 p.m. Saturday.
