A 25-year-old Central Maine man will serve two years in prison for possessing stolen firearms after being sentenced this week in federal court.

Prosecutors say Cody Smith of Oakland was caught on surveillance video breaking into a pawn shop in Waterville, where he stole 20 handguns.

The break in occurred on August 10 of 2025.

Smith reportedly posted video on social media hours later displaying some of the stolen firearms and admitting to the break in.

Smith pleaded guilty to the crime on May 5.

Following his two-year sentence, Smith will be under three years of supervised release. He was also ordered to pay $6,995 in restitution.

The Waterville Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the case.
