The Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating a fire at an Augusta home Thursday afternoon that left one person dead.
Firefighters say they found a basement fire that a caller thought had been extinguished and called in off-duty personnel to assist.
The victim has been identified as 66-year-old Michael Keith.
He was taken originally to the Maine General Hospital in Augusta and was subsequently transported by LifeFlight to Maine Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries.
Investigators have determined the cause was ignitable liquids being accidently ignited near a chimney cleanout door.
