Healthcare provider lays off 16 employees and closes Bangor office

Penobscot County Health Care is laying off employees and closing its Bangor office.

A spokesperson says the provider will be closing its Adult Wellness Center in Bangor amid what they say are ongoing financial issues.

16 positions are being eliminated, and 11 employees will be transferred to new roles.

A group of Maine lawmakers sent a letter to state leadership asking for funding to keep Penobscot County Health Care afloat after the organization said it needed $3 million to avoid bankruptcy.

A spokesperson for Gov. Janet Mills this week said she planned to meet with PCHC leaders to discuss the provider’s finances.
