13-year-old boy charged with assault in shooting of 14-year-old in Lewiston

A 13-year-old boy is accused of shooting a 14-year-old boy in Lewiston on Thursday.

Officers say they were sent to the area of Avon Street around 4:30 p.m. for reports of screaming and multiple gunshots.

Officers found the boy with a gunshot wound to his leg.

He was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

On Friday, police said a 13-year-old boy was charged with elevated aggravated assault, while a 15-year-old was charged with carrying a concealed weapon in connection with the shooting.

Both were taken to Long Creek Youth Development Center in South Portland.

Police said they recovered three guns during the investigation, two of which were stolen.

More arrests are expected as part of the investigation.
