Hundreds of first responders joined a procession Wednesday to remember the life of a Maine Game Warden who died in a plane crash.

Joshua Tibbetts’ plane crashed in Avon near Schoolhouse Pond on Tuesday while he was working with crews on the ground to restock fish in lakes and ponds.

Tibbetts, who worked with the warden service since 2008, was interested in aviation and earned his commercial pilot certificate and ratings needed to become a Maine Game Warden pilot.

Condolences and prayers over the crash are widespread, including statements from the sheriff’s offices from Franklin and Cumberland Counties as well as Governor Janet Mills and Congressman Jared Golden.

Wednesday’s procession made its way from Augusta to Newport.

The cause of the crash is being investigated by local authorities along with the FAA and NTSB.

The NTSB says its investigation will focus on the pilot, the Cessna aircraft and the weather at the time of the crash.

A preliminary report is expected within 30 days with a final report taking anywhere between 12 months to a year.
