Connecticut Woman Dead, Maine Man Charged with Murder Following Shooting Near Sugarloaf

We have new details about a weekend shooting near the Sugarloaf ski resort.

A 24-year-old Carrabasett Valley man is in jail on murder charges after Maine State Police say he shot and killed his girlfriend in an apartment they shared in the Left Bank condos.

They say Austin Doucette shot 23-year-old Makayla Rose Desantis of Colchester, Connecticut Sunday night.

Desantis was taken to a Farmington hospital before being transferred to Maine Medical Center in Portland, where she died.

State Police say an investigation is ongoing and more details will be released when appropriate.

The shooting took place at about 7:30 pm Sunday.

The initial investigation was conducted by the Maine State Police Major Crimes Unit and was assisted by the Carrabassett Valley Police Department and the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

An apparent shooting Sunday night in Carrabasett Valley that left a Sugarloaf employee dead is under investigation.

A resort spokesperson confirmed the death of an employee at a condo unit a few miles away from the ski resort.

A neighbor says the woman who was killed lived upstairs with her boyfriend.

Later that night, police chased a car going 80 miles an hour heading away from the condo, with the driver eventually pulling over with a gunshot wound.

The death has not yet been ruled a homicide.
